Tasting Notes
Straw colour. Rich and complex nose, Apricots, peaches, almonds, brioche. Subtle ginger spice in the background. On the palate the wine is typical of varietal. Oily and fat, but balanced by candied citrus notes and balanced acidity. The length is generous with beautiful nutty flavours.
93 Points | "Gorgeously fruited and fragrant, the wine shows apricot, Gala apple, nougat and hazelnut characters with a hint of spicy overtone. The concentrated palate offers terrific fruit weight and rounded texture, complemented by beautifully pitched acidity, finishing long and satisfying. At its best now to 2024." - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
92 Points | "Apricot and peach, apple and a touch of citrus then vanilla and a touch of lees complexity. Varietal, youthful and appealing bouquet. A silky texture with flavours that mirror the nose, very fine chalky mouthfeel emphasised by acidity and gently warming alcohol. Balanced and well made, ready to drink from 2021 through 2026." - Cameron Douglas MS
90 Points | "Dry, firmly-structured viognier with ginger, apricot, nectarine, stone fruit and subtle floral flavours. A line of bright acidity gives the wine energy while helping to restrain subtle succulence." - Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review
Winemaker's Notes
100% Viognier from Dakins Road vineyard. 3360L. Mix of Stainless Steel and oak ferment, but aged in old barrels with monthly stirring. 13.7% alc. pH 3.63, Ta 5.0g/L. <1.0g/L RS. The fruit was hand-picked and gently pressed using a Champagne-style press cycle to give clarity and minimize phenolic extraction from the thick Viognier skins. The juice was cooled to 5°C and settled for 24 hours before racking and fermenting on a selection of cultured yeasts at 12°C to maximize fruit characteristics and add complex aroma notes. 51% was fermented at a slightly warmer temperature with indigenous yeasts in neutral barrels and puncheons to add texture, weight and complexity
