The cool season has enabled to deliver a balanced elegant wine with good weight and finish. Semi-tropical fruit, stone fruit, lifted citrus and lime flower aromas combine with the aroma of lightly roasted cashew and a gentle floral perfume for a lovely, complex wine. The weighty and generous palate balances with elegant, subtle acidity for a beautiful lingering finish.
4-Stars | The 2018 vintage was grown in the northern Wairarapa and 50% barrel-fermented; the rest was handled in tanks. It is mouthfilling, with fresh, ripe tropical-fruit flavours to the fore, hints of toasty oak adding complexity, and a dry (1.5g/L of residual sugar), smooth finish. Drink now or cellar." - Michael Cooper
90 Points | "Juicy, fleshy, fruity, varietal and attractive bouquet of SB. Vibrant, spicy, citrusy and fruity on the palate with flavours of red apple and lemon, white peach and fresh herb. Nice acid line adding length and vibrato, flavours persist through a lengthy finish. Balanced and well made. Drink now and through 2021."- Cameron Douglas MS
Hand-picked fruit was gently whole bunch pressed, while machine-harvested fruit was allowed some skin contact to help extract more flavour. Free-run juice was cold settled for three days before being racked and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Further spicy wine phenolics were extracted from skin ferments. Different fermentation temperatures gave each batch a chance to express itself more freely. The batches were kept on the lees for an extended period with fortnightly stirring to promote palate weight. Approximately half of the wine is barrel fermented to give extra texture and weight.
